Troy A. Beam, a 60-year-old Shippensburg native, was previously notorious for hidding out in an Amish encampment in Florida to escape from federal investigators after skirting tax laws for years and putting away millions in an account in the Cayman Islands, the US Department of Justice explained at the time of his sentencing in 2012 in court documents obtained by Daily Voice.
Now Beam is also notrious for "disruptive actions at several polling locations on Election Day, November 7, 2023," DA McCormack stated in a release. Numerous community members filed compliants about his actions on Election Day.
A hearing was held "to determine the fitness of Constable Troy A. Beam to serve in his elected position," before President Judge Edward E. Guido on Jan 23.
Six witnesses testified against Beam.
McCormack concluded his release as follows:
"The President Judge’s final order stated that it was clear beyond all doubt that Mr. Beam had abused his authority and was unfit to serve. Beam has been removed from office, and a vacancy has been declared for the position of Constable of Southampton and Hopewell Townships."
